Kaya found comfort spending time at the abandoned house down the road. The house wasn’t even complete before it became a debris, bore four stories with half a roof, unfinished cement circular staircases with no handles, washed down blue paint on walls surrounded with piles of bricks that looked like vomit, galvanized steel bars sticking out of the ground, all covered in layers of dust and web. She went there to climb to the upper floor to get a bird’s eye view of the neighborhood, sticking her head out from where should have been built the rest of the roof. Half a roof provided her with breadth.

One day, as she was carefully marching through the galvanized steel to make her way to the top floor, came across a heavily pregnant cat wondering in the very same debris. The cat was visibly starved despite the bum with her babies, it looked like the coat hair was sticking out of her bones. She had an infected eye and her face scarred that made the outlines of her nose blend with her cheeks.

Kaya rushed back to her house to grab whatever she could find as quickly as she could. The cat was still there when she returned. She prepared a cardboard box with a blanket inside, two plastic bowls with water and food and let the cat be for the day. She started paying more frequent visits to the debris. On the third day, she was greeted with four newborn kittens.

There may or may not be a pinch of insanity in the mix.
